Staying in the Krungthep Wing was a delight with rooms offering beautiful views of the Chao Phraya River, though some parts looked dated and shabby. The Thai silk accents and furnished balcony added charm despite minor issues like a leaking shower and malfunctioning TV remote.
The hotel attempted to charge me again for a room that was already paid for in advance, and the 'semi-river view' required significant effort to see the river. The NYE party experience could have been enhanced with a communal dance floor accessible to all guests.

The hotel was a bit overpriced for the New Year's Eve stay, but the room had a balcony overlooking the river and skyscrapers. However, cleanliness was a major issue, with dust and dirt everywhere, despite requesting cleaning.
The hotel had some nice perks like a good working and sitting area in the rooms from London, but unless you really plan to use the balcony, others may be better value and slightly cheaper. The friendly and warm service elevators made my stay worthwhile, besides being directly at the Chao Praya river, which is a major charm of the Shangri-La in Bangkok.
